GMC Teases 2023 Canyon Pickup

A teaser photo shows just half of the grille of the 2023 GMC Canyon midsize truckGeneral Motors builds two versions of most of its trucks. The classic explanation is that the more affordable version appears with a Chevrolet badge, then a premium-leaning model shows up behind the GMC moniker.

That logic doesn’t necessarily hold true these days – a $70,000 Chevy Silverado High Country offers everything from heated and cooled front seats to a hands-free highway driving system. But a new Chevy truck still means that a new GMC truck is coming.

Last week, we got a new Chevy Colorado midsize truck. So this week, GMC is teasing its own next-generation midsize pickup.

So far, the company has given us just a partial glimpse. Late yesterday, GMC sent journalists a photo showing the passenger’s side of the 2023 Canyon from a head-on view and a low angle.

It suggests a truck with a slightly more restrained look than its Colorado brother. The Canyon seems to lack the abundance of character lines in the hood that mark Chevy’s latest midsize truck.

It wears an enormous grille with grid details inset into grid details. Thin LED daytime running lights sit over larger headlights. A bull bar frames the lower half of the grille – probably a sign that we’re looking at the off-road-oriented Canyon AT4X model.

That’s all we get from a limited photo. But the Colorado’s spec sheet tells us to expect several different versions of a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine ranging from around 230 horsepower to around 310.

We may also see a bed with flexible tie-down options and lockable storage in the tailgate.

We won’t have to wait long for more details. GMC says the Canyon will appear in full on August 11.
