Polestar 6 – They’re Gonna Build That Gorgeous Roadster

The Polestar 02 Concept roadster, seen in profilePolestar showed off one of the prettiest concept cars we’ve seen in years this spring. Now, the company has announced plans to build it. Unfortunately, there’s no word on whether the traffic-scanning buddy drone will make it into the final production car.

About Polestar

Polestar is one of a handful of startup automakers focused on building electric cars. It has a head start on the pack, though. It began as a performance division of Volvo before spinning off to develop its own products.

If you haven’t seen a Polestar on the road, you may know the company from TV advertising that takes veiled shots at Tesla CEO Elon Musk with promises that Polestar focuses on Earth, not Mars.

The company sold all 1,500 units of its Polestar 1 performance car. It currently builds just the Polestar 2, a rugged-looking fastback sedan with up to 270 miles of range and 408 horsepower (though the most potent version has a lower range).

It has begun advertising a Polestar 3 performance SUV, expected to premiere in October. A larger Polestar 4 SUV seems behind it in development, while an ultra-luxe Polestar 5 Grand Tourer is in the works.

About the Polestar 6

As a concept, Polestar’s first drop-top was called the Polestar 02. That would make for a confusing production name, though, since the company’s best-selling product is called the Polestar 2. So, the gorgeous little drop-top will wear a Polestar 6 badge.

The 6 will ride on a bonded aluminum frame and use an 800-volt architecture like the Porsche Taycan to enable faster charging than many of today’s electric vehicles (EVs).

Polestar says the platform can handle up to 884 horsepower, with a motor on each axle for all-wheel-drive grip. The company is aiming for a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds.

The car will launch with a “Polestar 6 LA Concept edition” in the same sky blue as the 02 concept, limited to 500 examples. But you’ll have to wait – Polestar expects the 6 to reach production as a 2026 model.
