Recall Alert: Kia Sorento, Sedona

The 2016 Kia Sorento seen from a front quarter angleKia has issued a recall for about 28,000 Sorento SUVs and Sedona minivans from model year 2016. Drivers may be able to shift the vehicles out of park without touching the brake pedal. That makes it easier for an errant bump to shift the car out of park and cause it to roll away.

Kia became aware of the issue when an owner said their child had shifted their Sedona out of park while the engine was off. The child was unhurt, but the threat was obvious.

The company says a supplier may have built the shift lock lever in the automatic transmission used in the 2016 Sedona and Sorento “out of specification.”

Dealers will inspect the automatic transmission shift lever assembly and replace it if it’s not locking properly. Owners who have already paid to repair this issue may be eligible for reimbursement.

Recall repairs are always free. Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
